Jelena Ivelic is a Fulbright sponsored Visiting Scholar from the University of Zagreb postgraduate social work and social policy, faculty of law program in Croatia. Jelena also works for the University North in Koprivnica, Croatia. While at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare (September 1, 2013-June 30, 2014), Jelena is developing her dissertation proposal. Jelena is working under the mentorship of Dr. Edward Canda, furthering her research and knowledge on the theme of her doctoral dissertation, which is spirituality and social work. There has been substantial research examining this theme in several other countries and Jelena is interested in implementing this type of research in Croatia.

Her published works are focused on the areas of spirituality and psychiatry, spirituality and suicide, and spirituality and depression.
