Biography

Dr. Gohori has a Ph.D. from Hyogo University of Education (2011, Japan) and  Master degree in Philology/Cultural Anthropology (2007, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic). He has been on the faculty of Shukutoku University since 2015 and is currently a Professor with its Asian Research Institute for International Social Work/Graduate School of Social Welfare. Dr. Gohori also has lecturer affiliations at Joetsu University of Education, Niigata College of Nursing, Japan College of Social Work, and Nagaoka Sutoku University, also in Japan.

Research

Dr. Gohori coordinates an international joint research project on Buddhism and social work in the Asian region, focusing on the cultural background of social work practice and education, specifically on the role of religion and spirituality. His research interests apply a multidisciplinary approach to topics related to older adult social work clients in Japan, religion and spirituality in social work, death and dying, international social work, and connections between Buddhism and social work in Asia. He has been on clinical care staff at Litomysl Hospital for end-of-life care (Czech Republic) and Vihara Ward Buddhist Hospice of Nagaoka Hospital (Japan) and is involved with community and volunteer activity in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. His most recent book (as editor-in-chief and author) is From Western-rooted professional social work to Buddhist social work (Tokyo, Japan: Gakubunsha, 2017). He is active in supporting research, conferences, and book development regarding Buddhist social work in several Asian countries.
