Biography

Professor Hardy has a BSW from Morgan State University (1997), an MSW from The Ohio State University (1998), and a PhD from Morgan State University (2010). She is an Associate Professor of Social Work at Fayetteville State University School of Social Work in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She has been the President of the Society for Spirituality and Social Work since 2017. Dr. Hardy is Editor-in-Chief for the journal Social Work in Public Health. She is also the Board Secretary for the North American Association of Christians in Social Work and a Board Member for the Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Social Work.

Dr. Hardy's research focuses on the intersection of social work and faith with a particular emphasis on African-Americans and the institution of the Black Church in both a historical and contemporary context. Her current research addresses breast cancer and breast health awareness models in urban Black Churches.

Research

Professor Hardy’s research focuses on the significance and role of spirituality and faith in African-American communities and the role of the Black Church as a support system in historical and contemporary contexts. Her publications explore issues related to breast cancer, mutual support systems for African-American women, attitudes toward religious help-seeking, and social reform. Her scholarly presentations explore these topics and others related to education and scholarship, such as Black women in scholar activism, pathways for Black professionals in social work educational administration, and supportive strategies for scholarly writing.
