Biography

Professor Kyung Mee Kim has an M.A. in Social Work from Ewha Womans University in Seoul and a Ph.D. in Social Welfare from the University of Kansas, USA. She is a Professor in the Department of Social Welfare at Soongsil University in Seoul. She has been a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Institute on Community Living, University of Minnesota and a Visiting Scholar at the Research and Training Center on Independent Living, University of Kansas.

Research

Dr. Kim’s work focuses on many aspects of the experiences of people with intellectual, developmental, physical, and health-related disabilities; practice and policy to promote holistic, strengths-based, independent living approaches in the disability field; and meaning-making in relation to health challenges; as well as the role of spiritual diversity in Korean social welfare. She has more than 40 refereed articles in Korean journals and more than 40 articles in international journals, plus chapters and many research reports. She has been the Principal Investigator or Co-PI for more than 20 funded projects.
